Biography

After numerous years as a secondary school biology, physical science and technology teacher Hannetjie taught biology and science at the Sebokeng College of Education (2 years) and after that the North West University (12 years). Between 1997 and 2012 she managed a Kumon centre with around 200 students and 12 staff members teaching mathematics and English to all ages.

After immigrating to New Zealand in 2012, she started teaching science and mathematics at the school of Foundation Studies, Manukau Institute of Technology (now Te Pūkenga). She joined the MIT School of Nursing in 2019. She is constantly trying to optimise the learning environment to improve student experience and learning without compromising quality. This included revising the labs and lab schedule to accommodate the 160 bachelor of nursing students to safely work within the Covid-19 restrictions including social distancing without using more lab sessions. Since 2019 she has completed 240 credits of the bachelor of applied counselling programme, which made mental health a new area of interest.

Why I love MIT

MIT gives me a forum where I can connect to people, have opportunities to grow as a person and help others to grow, and in that way contribute to society.
