Opened in June 2016, the MIT Pasifika Community Centre (PCC) is the embodiment of our commitment to Pacific people, enabling them to succeed as Pasifika. The local Pasifika communities played a large part in advocating for the centre to be established. Our Pasifika community and all MIT whānau can connect to a central structure that is dedicated to expressing cultural identity as well as a beautiful meeting house for students, staff and community. The centre has meeting rooms equipped with the latest technologies, video conferencing, smart boards, data-show equipment and one large meeting hall which seats 100 people.

The role of the MIT Pasifika Community Komiti (PCK) is to bring diverse Pasifika voices from across Auckland to engage at a governance level. PCK advocates to the NZIST MIT Board about the direction of the Pasifika Education Strategy and to uphold, protect, and promote MIT’s responsibilities and obligations for Pasifika students, staff, and communities.

In 2019, MIT became the first tertiary provider in Aotearoa to establish a Pasifika Academic Committee (PAC). This committee operates within the wider mandate of the MIT Academic Committee, giving prominence and voice to Pasifika academic-related matters. It also provides the avenue for staff to share Pasifika best-practice and teaching styles. We encourage our Pasifika staff to join PAC and share their learnings and experience to support our academic colleagues.

The Pasifika Development Office is a one-stop-shop for all MIT staff. We have a team that caters to the needs of new and current staff members. Our support includes professional development, connecting and engaging with Pasifika communities, Pasifika research, and much more.

We run face-to-face workshops focused on accelerating engagement with Pacific peoples both internally and externally. Some of the content covered in the workshops includes how to foster and improve your cultural intelligence with Pacific students, families, and communities and learning how to empower and engage your Pasifika staff base.
