Programme highlights
Roll up your sleeves and become a qualified carpenter with this three year managed apprenticeship.
This qualification is designed for people who are employed in the construction industry. You will learn all the required aspects of the carpentry trade and the knowledge you need to succeed in this industry.
To gain this qualification you will need to be employed in the construction industry with an employer who is willing to support you with regular work to meet the graduate outcomes of this qualification.
Study will take place one evening per week in class, while employers and tutors will verify your practical skills when you are at work.
You will be visited on-site throughout the programme.

Programme structure
You will need to complete the below 16 courses (320 credits):
215.319 Core skills 1 (20 credits)
Students will learn to use carpentry hand tools and equipment safely.
215.408 Core skills 2 (20 credits)
Students will develop the skills to safely use a range of hand tools, power tools and scaffolding.
215.409 Legislation (20 credits)
Students will gain an understanding of the legislation governing safety, quality and compliance within the building industry.
215.320 Basic industry skills (20 credits)
Students will develop skills of reading plans, measuring and calculating quantities, and principles of framing.
215.321 Building science 1 (16 credits)
Students will learn the principles of thermal and acoustic insulation, adhesives and sealants, construction programming.
215.322 First aid (4 credits)
Students will learn the management of first aid situations on a construction site setting and gain first aid certification.
215.410 Building science 2 (20 credits)
Students will learn the principles of weather tightness, concrete, retaining walls.
215.411 Foundations 1 (20 credits)
Students will learn principles of site establishment and foundations.
215.412 Concrete and steel (20 credits)
Students will develop the skills to place reinforcing steel and concrete on building sites.
215.413 Structures 1 (20 credits)
Students will learn about, and carry out wall framing, roof framing and trusses.
215.414 Envelopment 1 (20 credits)
Students will learn, and carry out fitting and fixing of exterior claddings, joinery and hardware.
215.415 Core skills 3 (25 credits)
Students will develop the skills to carry out preliminary work and set out buildings.
215.416 Foundations 2 (25 credits)
Students construct foundations.
215.417 Structures 2 (25 credits)
Students will develop the skills to construct building structure.
215.418 Envelopment 2 (25 credits)
Students will fix cladding and install joinery.
215.419 Interiors (20 credits)
Students will install insulation, linings and fix trim.

Free study for the first year of your Level 3 or above qualification may be available under the government’s fees-free study scheme.
