Ngā Kete Wānanga Marae

Ngā Kete Wānanga was opened in 1999 for students, staff, and as a community resource. It incorporates a wharenui (Te Kete Uruuru Matua), a wharekai (Tahua Roa), classrooms and offices. Viewed from the above, you can see that the complex has been designed to look like a matau (hook) to 'hook' people into education.

The marae is at the heart of MIT and connects everyone?together. It also demonstrates Mātauranga Māori?as the central hub for all things Māori.

Services provided at the marae include:
  • Pōwhiri
  • Māori Student Support – cultural advice, scholarship information.
  • Kaupapa Māori support
  • Translation advice
  • Te Reo Māori classes
  • Tauira Māori Roopu
