Vaelua Salafai Mika studied at St John’s NZ Theological College in Auckland from 1984-1986, after completing his studies, his 1st posting was in Dunedin at the Corstorphine/Concord Methodist Church from 1987 to 1990. During this time Salafai was Ordained into the NZ Methodist Conference 1988 in Levin.
Salafai’s next posting after Dunedin was in Otara at the St Paul’s Methodist Church – from 1991 to 1996. In 1997 he changed “tack”?and?opened the Samoan Papatoetoe Metotisi Church?and?the official opening of this church was in 2003. His next posting was at the Faletoi Metotisi Church in Otara from 2004 to 2010 and his final placement was in Christchurch at the Phillipstown Samoa Metotisi church 2011 to 2015 – by October 2015 Salafai had retired from the Ministry?and?is currently residing in Papatoetoe?and?is a member of the Papatoetoe Metotisi Church.
Salafai has been a member of the MIT PI Board for around 5 years?and?enjoys sharing his knowledge?and?experience from working in different backgrounds whilst in the Ministry – he has also been involved with some Restorative Justice session’s in the past, visiting prison inmates as a Counsellor/Chaplin?and?is a lively Hurricanes?and?Manu Samoa supporter (when they win!).
