The successful utilisation of new ideas is essential for a business to be able to improve its practices, generate new and improved products and services, and above all, to increase its efficiency and profitability. Researchers at the school of business are highly experienced, and their research areas include sustainability, governance, commercial law, accounting and finance, business communication, market analytics, charities management, international trade, and project management. The school delivers a Bachelor of Applied Management and several graduate certificate programmes.

Researchers and their research interests:

Dr Satya Gonuguntla — Researches international trade and foreign direct investment

Dr Gonuguntla is a Principal Lecturer and Academic Lead (Research) at the School of Business. He teaches economics, business statistical analysis, accounting information systems, decision making and analysis, business research methods as well as supervising capstone projects.

Dr Gonuguntla is the current editor of the New Zealand Journal of Applied Business Research (NZJABR) and has published in international journals and presented in international and local conferences in relation to international trade and foreign direct investment.

John Horsley — Researches corporate governance, corporate law, leadership, and sustainability reporting

John is a Principal Lecturer at the School of Business and is a member of the New Zealand Law Society and the New Zealand Governance Institute. He teaches management, business research ethics, commercial law as well as supervising capstone projects.

John is a highly experienced applied researcher and has published in New Zealand and Australian Law Society Journals and other academic journals, presented in numerous academic and industry conferences, seminars and has conducted workshops.

Terry Quilty — Researches law, environmental issues, commercial and management issues, integration of law, finance and health in charities services

Terry is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and teaches commercial law and related courses and he also supervises capstone projects.

He has published and presented internationally and is currently conducting research on a comparative analysis of the United Kingdom and New Zealand charities to predict failures. Terry's recent work has focused on management decision making, good governance and the charities sector.

Francesca Horsley — Researches communication

Francesca is a Senior Lecturer of communications at the School of Business. She is the co-editor of the ebook “New Zealand's Post-Covid-19 Business Environment: Some Reflections” and her articles are published in DANZ Magazine, New Zealand Listener and Women's Weekly.  Francesca also supervises capstone projects.

Rajbir Singh — Researches applied marketing research

Rajbir is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and teaches consumer behaviour, marketing planning and control, strategic marketing and international marketing. He also supervises capstone projects.

Jonathan Armougum — Researches human resource management

Jonathan Armougum is a Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator at the School of Business. He actively engages in research and teaches across a range of human resource management and leadership courses for the business undergraduate programmes. He also supervises capstone projects.

Tania Parker — Researches project management

Tania is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and a member of the Project Management Institute. She teaches project management as well as supervising capstone projects.

Renuka Narayan — Researches cooperative education

Renuka is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business, Academic Lead (Student) and Capstone Project Coordinator and teaches tourism and hospitality, and communication and human resource management. She conducts research on cooperative education and work-integrated learning and has presented in academic conferences and research seminars in New Zealand and Australia.

Tom Vai Vai — Researches management accounting

Tom is a Lecturer at the School of Business and teaches accounting. He has presented a conference paper on the efficacy of business as usual management accounting reporting in supporting the adoption of project management methodologies for a small commercial developer.

Vijay Saini — Researches accounting

Vijay is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and teaches management accounting as well as supervising capstone projects. He has presented as a keynote speaker in international conferences.
