Work with us

“We are all part of a bigger picture that can transform a person’s life through education”

Nicole Henry started her journey at Te Whare Takiura o Manukau (MIT) as a student and a casual employee. Soon after she finished her studies, she was offered a role of a student advisor and gradually took on more project work thanks to her passion for helping tauira (students). She then progressed into a Student Support team leader role: "I have been really fortunate to have had all these growth opportunities and feel valued by MIT," Nicole says.

Culture and celebrating our people

At MIT, we believe in creating an inclusive work environment where we all celebrate unique experiences, encourage diverse ideas and make supportive connections. We are proud of our people and our values and we strive to ensure all our people feel respected and confident to bring their whole self to work. Nicole says: "The culture here is really good. It's a supportive environment where I learn something new every day."

We recognise our people’s commitment to our values through our quarterly initiative Celebrating Excellence. We also organise an annual event for all of our people to celebrate and reflect on our achievements throughout the year. Nicole was one of our Celebrating Excellence annual event winners. “To be recognised is a reassurance you are doing the right thing. Not only do I see the value, but my leaders and peers see it as well. It’s a huge confidence booster and it makes you feel valued as a staff member.

Leadership and shaping our tomorrow

"As leaders, we need to look at what we can do and how to support our kaimahi (staff). We need to take the time to understand them." Nicole says. When you become part of MIT, you are encouraged to share your insight through our engagement survey, My Voice, and help drive a positive workplace culture. "Leadership at MIT is having a great group of people, executing a shared vision, shared belief, together," Nicole says. It is all about living our values and creating an encouraging and supportive environment for our people.

Our leaders are supported through their managers, HR business partners, regular leadership days and collaboration with the leadership group. Our emerging leaders are recognised and have an opportunity to participate in a formal leadership development programme.
