Introduction to Networks (CCNA 1)

Who should attend

Participants must be proficient in the Windows environment and have a working knowledge of the Internet and its browsing software.

Note: You must be able to demonstrate competence with the English language. Suitable evidence could be a score of 6 on IELTS, or the MIT English language test.

Course structure

  • Devices and services used to support communications in data networks and the Internet
  • The role of protocol layers in data networks
  • Addressing and naming schemes used at various layers of data networks in IPv4 and IPv6 environments
  • Design, calculate and apply IPv4 and IPv6 subnet masks and addresses
  • Ethernet concepts such as media, services and operations
  • Build a simple Ethernet network using routers and switches
  • Use a command-line interface to perform basic router and switch configurations
  • Utilize common network utilities to verify small network operations and analyse data traffic.

Completion of the four Cisco CCNA components will enable students to sit for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification exam. Cost of the certification is not included and will need to be done externally.

Graduates of the programme will be competent to design, build and manage computer networks.

Recognition

Participants who have successfully completed the Cisco CCNA 1 will receive an official certificate from Cisco Systems Networking Academy.
